Don’t Be A Toddler…

Have you ever tried to get a toddler to try something new and they throw a fit and refuse to try it no matter what?
That’s how we feel any time we try to tell adults that adding organ meats into their diets is essential.  Not recommended, essential.  We’ve written about organ meats before , but the TL;DR is that organ meats are the most nutritious foods on the planet.  They have a higher density of vitamins and minerals than any other food.  PERIOD.  No food has a higher density and availability of B vitamins, fat soluble vitamins, and minerals like selenium, iron, copper, magnesium etc.

How Can You Get More Organ Meats Into Your Diet?

We get it.  The texture is gross, the smell is nasty, and they can taste pretty gross too.  So how do we eat them?  Simple.  We puree them in a food processor and mix them into other foods.  This recipe is a simple burger recipe using blueberries, breakfast sausage, beef, and beef kidney that we came up with in a quest to find new burger recipes.  The hardest part about this recipe is processing the kidney and cleaning up afterwards.  However, if you make them correctly, you won’t know their is kidney in them.

The Recipe

 2lbs grass-fed beef (we used 93%)
4 oz butcher box breakfast sausage
1/2 cups blueberries
3-5oz beef kidney
2tbl onion powder
3tsp basil
Salt to taste
Purée beef kidney in a food processor and combine with above ingredients, except blueberries. Once meat, kidney purée and seasoning is well mixed add the blueberries and carefully mix without breaking the berries. Makes 10 burgers. Grill 4-6 minutes per side.
